Vicki Ebberts

Studio Chief of Staff at Undead Labs

"She’s an exceptional graphic designer, yes, but what sets her apart is her willingness to jump in and make time to help you with that special project, actually seek out feedback (what a rare treat this is), and set the standard for others to follow. She raises the bar just by being on the team."

Jess Jenkins

Media & Cinematics Lead at Turn 10 Studios

"Having Megan on the team was like having a special forces agent on standby, always ready to take on any design task we could throw her way."

Chen Qian

Cinematic / Video Artist at Turn 10, Xbox Game Studios - Microsoft

"What stood out even more was how supportive and approachable she was throughout the time we worked together. As someone more junior, I really appreciated how easy she was to communicate and collaborate with, even under tight deadlines."

Zoe McClatchey

Senior Software Engineer II at Undead Labs

"Meg's artwork for the SoD2 updates we worked on was legendary - so many good stories, both in terms of updates and the various challenge packs we built together, were capped off with flair and visible joy by Megan's unique banner images and art."

Mukul Soman

Skybox Artist | 343 Industries

"I would love to work with her again in the future and strongly recommend her to any position where, skill, artistic sense and quick turnaround time are the defining factors."

Corey Dangel

Art Director | Sony Online Entertainment

"She is versatile, consistent, professional, easy to work with, reliable, the list goes on. I could always count on Megan's work to be on-time and executed above expectations."

Chris Vanderleest

Senior Level Designer | Undead Labs

"She is blazingly fast, very technically competent, and crazy diverse in her abilities."

Growing Up

I was raised in the charming seaside metropolis of Edmonds, WA, which is basically the Pacific Northwest’s answer to a sleepy postcard. I shared this cozy upbringing with my older sister, mom, and dad. Then came the dramatic relocation to the wild and mysterious lands of... Redmond, WA. Exotic, I know. It was just in time for high school, and our new abode? A luxurious one-bedroom cabin on Ames Lake, generously handed down by Grandma. Yes, four people, one bedroom, and zero personal space. We were basically a live-action game of Tetris.

But hey, it was on a lake. Summer days were filled with sunshine, swimming, and pretending the house wasn’t slowly sinking into mild structural chaos. Eventually, I started homeschooling, which meant flexible hours and plenty of time to contribute to the grand cabin expansion project. We added two whole bedrooms and even a second floor, all DIY, all family-built, and 100% character (and probably 45% up to code).

Education & Early Career

Being a straight-A student, I had the academic world at my feet. Naturally, I decided to dropkick it all and go to Art School, much to my parents’ mixed feelings. I enrolled at The Art Institute of Seattle, which was maybe not the wisest investment of my invisible savings. BUT it did land me an internship (and eventually a job) at Flying Lab thanks to my 3D lighting instructor, who also happened to be the Art Director there. Oh, and I met my husband there too. So… definitely not all bad decisions.

After Flying Lab, fate introduced me to Luis, a coworker, mentor, and one-man support system. He helped me snag a job at Sony Online Entertainment, where I leveled up my 3D lighting skills and found my confidence (and some lifelong friends). My career really took off from there, hopping from Sony to Airtight, to 343 Industries, and finally to 5th Cell. Somewhere in there I got married, bought a house in Duvall, WA, and adopted a dog. Naturally, Luis and another Sony buddy served as my bridesmaids, because that’s just how we roll.

Small break from the industry

Then came the burnout. (Cue dramatic music.) Like many game devs before me, I hit the proverbial wall and decided I wanted something more fulfilling, like giving back and doing good things with a ridiculous name. Enter Operation Wandering Waffle, a charity project I started with my sister. Think scavenger hunts meets wholesome chaos. We raised money, supported local non-profits, and proved that doing good can be downright silly and meaningful. We even helped charities upgrade their online presence, such as social media content and websites.

This led me to NAMI Eastside, where I redesigned their website and was then (surprise!) offered a job. I went from Communications Manager to Acting Director in just three years. It was rewarding, meaningful, and often overwhelming, but I got to work with incredible people (hi, Senator Manka Dhingra!). While I was working here, my husband and I decided to welcome a tiny new roommate into our lives, aka our son. Not exactly the ideal timing, considering non-profits are famously allergic to things like insurance or maternity leave... but babies don’t check your benefits package before arriving!

ANd I'm Back!

Alas, the game industry was calling me back like a clingy ex with a great job offer. And wouldn’t you know it; Luis reappears like the fairy godmother of career comebacks. He let me know about a Social Media Manager opening at Undead Labs. Not quite the role I pictured, but hey, I had experience, and more importantly, I’d learned how to keep burnout at bay.

Over the next seven years at Undead Labs, I transformed from Social Media Manager to Marketing Artist to Senior Artist. I discovered a love for graphic design, motion graphics, and social media content creation I didn’t know I had. I worked with the most amazing, supportive team, seriously, they made everything better. So yes, I was absolutely crushed when our time together came to an end.

But as they say, when one door closes, another one opens. I’m now on the hunt for my next adventure, ready to bring my graphic design chops, motion graphics mojo, and social media magic to a new studio. Most of all, I want to help build a team that’s as positive, collaborative, and fun as the one I was lucky enough to be a part of.

P.S.

Oh, and in my spare time, I crochet, birdwatch, and tend lovingly to my aquarium, because apparently, I skipped my 40s entirely and woke up as a sassy 102-year-old with a yarn addiction and strong opinions about fin rot.
